The Interreg IV Seas program was established to boost creative collaboration between European territories, supporting cooperation through means of subsidies. The ACT Project aims to encourage a sense of belonging to a cross-border area with a unique identity.

Donkey Skin was an Interreg funded performance that we deliverd in Thurrock in 2013 in partnership with Gateway Academy, Southend YMCA and French dance company,Compagnie ECO.

The performance used contemporary ballet to retell the French fairy tale, Peau d'Âne: Donkey Skin. The evening also involved commentary from the choreographer, Emilio Calcagno.

Students from the Gateway Academy and young people from the Southend performed their own devised pieces in response to Donkey Skin following a series of workshops with dancers and choreographers from Compagnie Eco, THEATRE IS... and Royal Opera House.

This project was part of the ACT network, selected under the European cross-border cooperation programme INTERREG IV A France (Channel) – England, co-funded by the ERDF.

There are a number of Interreg projects happening in the East of England and Northern France until 2015. Project Manager, Jen Farrant will be managing Interreg projects on behalf of the Gateway Academy. We’d like to thank Jen and The Gateway for their continued support of this exciting work.

Le programme « Interreg IV Seas » a été créé pour encourager la collaboration créative entre les territoires européens, en soutenant la coopération par le biais de subventions. Le « ACT Project » vise à favoriser un sentiment d'appartenance à un espace transfrontalier avec une identité unique.

« Donkey Skin » était un spectacle financé par Interreg que nous avons donné à Thurrock en 2013, en partenariat avec la Gateway Academy, le YMCA de Southend et la compagnie de danse française, Compagnie ECO.

La représentation utilisait le ballet contemporain pour raconter le conte de fées français Peau d'Âne, traduit « Donkey Skin » en anglais. La soirée a également impliqué des commentaires du chorégraphe Emilio Calcagno.

Les étudiants de la Gateway Academy et des jeunes du YMCA de Southend interprétèrent leurs propres œuvres, conçues en réponse à « Donkey Skin », suite à une série d'ateliers avec des danseurs et chorégraphes de la Compagnie Eco, THEATRE IS... et le Royal Opera House . Ce projet faisait partie du réseau ACT, sélectionné dans le cadre du programme européen de coopération transfrontalière INTERREG IV A France (Channel) - Angleterre, cofinancé par le FEDER.

Il y a plusieurs projets Interreg qui se dérouleront dans l'est de l'Angleterre et dans nord de la France jusqu'en 2015. Jen Farrant, gestionnaire de projets, dirigera les projets Interreg au nom de la Gateway Academy. Nous tenons à remercier Jen et la Gateway pour leur soutien continu de ce travail passionnant.
